Meet Samantha I’m a caregiver for young children in Greater Victoria, with a Master’s-level teaching qualification, recent academic training in Human Resources, and a professional background in senior executive leadership. Working closely with children and families keeps me connected to the everyday experiences of our community, while my leadership experience has taught me the importance of good governance, accountability and collaboration. I’m running to bring these perspectives to the SD61 Board.
My Priorities
1 - Safe, inclusive schools where students come first
I believe students are best served when decisions are grounded in their safety, well-being and individual needs—not political division.
I support both School Police Liaison Officer programs and SOGI 123. These should not be treated as opposing priorities. I want to see SD61 rebuild strong, accountable relationships with local police while continuing to ensure LGBTQ2S+ students and staff feel safe, respected and supported in their schools.
My approach as a trustee would be to listen, ask questions and focus on what is working for students, families and staff.
2 - Protecting childhood in a digital world
Technology has a place in education, but it should support learning, not dominate it.
I want SD61 to take a thoughtful look at its cellphone policies and its reliance on screens and devices in the classroom. I support giving educators greater space to use pen-and-paper learning, books, outdoor education, hands-on experiences and community-based learning where they are effective.
With limited district resources, I also want to strengthen partnerships with local organizations and make better use of the expertise, natural spaces and opportunities that already exist in our community.
